Wine is a very delicate beverage that can be affected by temperature, climate, and time. As such a beloved drink, it’s important for wine-lovers to understand just how wine should be handled. After finding that perfect bottle of wine, many people have a difficult time keeping it fresh after opening it. There are a few easy ways to keep the wine fresh:

Recorking

One of the most common ways someone will keep their wine fresh is by recorking it. Unfortunately, it’s easy to mess this up and wine can go bad. There is a certain way wine must be recorked. Although the clean side of the removed cork will be easier to put back in the bottle, this is the wrong move. The stained side of the wine, unlike the clean side, has already been exposed to the wine and has kept its taste. The clean side, however, can ruin the wine’s taste if it’s kept in the bottle for more than a day.

Refrigerate

A great way to keep your wine fresh is by putting it in the refrigerator. More often than not, people will be more inclined to leave their opened wine bottle on the countertop, but that’s a bad idea. The same rule for food goes for wine; if you don’t want it to go bad quickly, be sure to refrigerate it. Although this won’t stop the exposed wine from breaking down, it will significantly slow it down and give you more time to enjoy it.

Coravin

For the wines that a little higher scale you are looking to pop open, there’s an easy way to take a glass over a longer period of time instead of within a night or two. This can be done not actually opening the wine. A device called the Coravin pierces the cork with a needle and tops the bottle with argon gas. This way you are able to pour out a glass or two, remove the needle, and the cork will seal naturally. This device is a bit pricey, which is why you should ave it for top-shelf wines only.

Drink It

The best way to keep wine tasting as fresh as possible is by simply finishing it when it’s opened. If you are drinking responsibly and splitting the bottle with others, it shouldn’t be too unreasonable to simply finish the bottle you have. But if you have your heart set on saving the bottle for the next couple days, follow the tips above to keep your wine as fresh as possible after opening.
